eConsult Clinical Question

A 61-year-old male patient with multiple food allergies (anaphylaxis), asthma, atopy, eczema being treated with Dupixent every 2 weeks. Please advise whether he can get mRNA COVID vaccine, whether he needs to get in allergy clinic or can get in vaccine clinic, whether he needs to hold Dupixent, and whether he needs pre- and/or post-medication with antihistamine.

1. Restatement of Question: 61-year-old male with multiple food allergies (anaphylaxis), asthma, atopy, eczema being treated with Dupixent every 2 weeks. Please advise whether he can get mRNA COVID vaccine, whether he needs to get in allergy clinic or can get in vaccine clinic, and whether he needs to hold Dupixent, whether he needs pre- and/or post-medication with antihistamine.
2. Recommendations: Patient may receive mRNA COVID vaccine, with 30-minute observation at routine vaccination clinic. No need to hold Dupixent, as this is not a live viral vaccine. We do not typically advise pre- or post-medications, but he may continue whatever allergy medications he does take for his various allergic conditions.
